Course Overview
Disasters — whether triggered by natural hazards, industrial accidents, or cascading infrastructure failures — do not discriminate by sector, geography, or organizational size. What they do discriminate by is preparedness. Organizations and communities with structured disaster management programs consistently demonstrate faster response times, reduced casualties, lower economic losses, and more effective recovery outcomes than those responding without a plan. The gap between these two groups is almost always one of training, preparation, and understanding of established disaster management frameworks.
This training course provides participants with a foundational understanding of disaster management principles, frameworks, and practical competencies applicable across organizational, community, and governmental contexts. The course is aligned with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030, developed by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), which establishes four priorities for action — Understanding Disaster Risk, Strengthening Disaster Risk Governance, Investing in Disaster Risk Reduction for Resilience, and Enhancing Disaster Preparedness for Effective Response.
