Course Overview
Offroad driving strips away the predictability of paved roads — shifting sand, loose gravel, steep gradients, and limited visibility demand a different set of judgment skills than everyday defensive driving, and misjudging terrain or vehicle capability can quickly result in rollovers, becoming stranded, or serious injury. In desert, mountainous, and remote site environments across the Middle East, where personnel regularly travel offroad to reach project sites, survey locations, or remote facilities, offroad driving awareness is an essential operational safety skill, not a recreational one.
This training course is designed to build practical awareness and foundational skill in offroad 4x4 vehicle operation for personnel who travel offroad as part of their work. The course applies ISO 39001: Road Traffic Safety (RTS) Management Systems principles to offroad driving contexts and references SAE J2807 vehicle capability standards to support informed vehicle and terrain matching. Participants will learn to assess terrain conditions, apply correct 4x4 vehicle control techniques, recognize offroad-specific hazards, and respond appropriately to common offroad emergencies including vehicle recovery and becoming stranded.

Applicable standards and reference frameworks including (ISO 39001 principles and SAE J2807 vehicle capability standards)
Distinguishing offroad driving risks from standard road driving including (traction loss, rollover risk, and remoteness)
Overview of common offroad incidents and their primary causes including (excessive speed, terrain misjudgment, and vehicle limitation misunderstanding)
2. Vehicle Familiarization for Offroad Use
Understanding 4x4 drivetrain systems including (part-time, full-time, and differential lock systems)
Selecting appropriate gear and drive settings for terrain type
Tire selection and pressure adjustment considerations for sand and gravel
Pre-trip vehicle inspection specific to offroad readiness including (recovery points, spare tire, and fluid levels)
