Course Overview
Pest management operations combine chemical handling risk with the responsibility of protecting facility occupants, food safety, and environmental health — a mismanaged application can expose workers and building occupants to harmful chemicals or fail to control the pest hazard it was intended to address. In commercial, industrial, and hospitality facilities across the Middle East, where pest control is a routine and continuous operational requirement, competent and disciplined pest management practice is essential to protecting both people and property.
This training course is designed to build practical competency in pest management operations for personnel responsible for pest identification, control, and pesticide application. The course is aligned with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.132: Personal Protective Equipment and EPA FIFRA (Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act) regulations, which establish the framework for safe pesticide use and applicator responsibility. Participants will learn to identify common pests and infestation indicators, apply Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles, safely handle and apply pesticides, and comply with documentation and regulatory reporting requirements.

Course Outline
1. Introduction to Pest Management Operations
Overview of pest management and its role in facility health and safety including (food safety, structural protection, and occupant wellbeing)
Applicable international standards and regulatory requirements including (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.132, EPA FIFRA, and local pest control regulations)
Roles and responsibilities including (licensed applicator, technician, and facility coordinator duties)
Overview of pest management incidents and their primary causes including (improper application, inadequate PPE use, and chemical mishandling)
2. Pest Identification and Biology
Identifying common insect pests including (cockroaches, ants, and flies)
Identifying common rodent pests including (rats and mice) and their behavior patterns
Identifying structural and wood-destroying pests including (termites)
Recognizing infestation indicators including (droppings, damage, and nesting signs)
3. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Principles
Applying the IPM hierarchy including (prevention, exclusion, and monitoring before chemical treatment)
Sanitation and exclusion practices including (sealing entry points and waste management)
