Course Overview

The skip truck — a rear-end, side, or hook-lift tipper vehicle used for the collection, haulage, and controlled discharge of construction and demolition waste, excavated materials, and bulk aggregate — operates across two distinct and equally demanding environments. On the construction site, the skip truck navigates congested, uneven, and dynamically changing work areas in close proximity to excavating equipment, pedestrians, and other plant. On the public road network, it operates as a laden commercial vehicle subject to traffic law, axle load limits, load security obligations, and waste transport regulatory requirements. The consequences of operator error in either environment — rollover under an unstable load, struck-by from reversing without adequate warning, load spillage causing road traffic incidents, or illegal waste disposal — are severe for the operator, the public, and the organization.


This training course develops comprehensive skip truck operator competency across vehicle familiarization, pre-use inspection, loading assessment and management, site haulage technique, tipping and discharge operations, road transport compliance, waste management regulatory requirements, and emergency response. The course is aligned with OSHA 29 CFR 1926.601: Motor Vehicles, which governs haulage vehicles on construction sites — mandating service brakes, reverse signal alarm, seat belt provision, cab shield or canopy for protection from falling or shifting materials, and daily pre-shift inspection of all safety-critical systems — and OSHA 29 CFR 1926.602: Material Handling Equipment for off-highway haulage equipment requirements.
