Course Overview
Spray painting combines fine airborne particulate, volatile solvent vapors, and pressurized equipment — a combination that demands strict procedural discipline to protect the operator's health while achieving a consistent, defect-free finish. In fabrication, marine, automotive, and industrial maintenance operations across the Middle East, where structural steel, pipelines, and equipment routinely require protective and decorative coatings, safe and competent spray painting practice is essential to both worker protection and coating quality.
This training course is designed to build practical competency in spray painting operation for personnel responsible for coating application work. The course is aligned with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.94: Ventilation and SSPC-PA 2: Measurement of Dry Coating Thickness with Magnetic Gages, which establish the framework for spray application exposure control and coating quality verification. Participants will learn to identify spray painting hazards, apply correct equipment operation and PPE use, achieve required coating thickness and finish standards, and work safely under supervision in spray application environments.

1. Introduction to Spray Painting Operations
Overview of spray painting and its role in protective and decorative coating including (primers, intermediate coats, and topcoats)
Applicable international standards and regulatory requirements including (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.94, SSPC-PA 2, and local environmental regulations)
Roles and responsibilities including (spray painter, mixer, and supervisor duties)
Overview of spray painting incidents and their primary causes including (solvent vapor exposure, fire ignition sources, and equipment misuse)
2. Coating Types and Spray Equipment
Common coating types including (epoxy, polyurethane, and zinc-rich primers) and their applications
Spray equipment types including (conventional spray guns, airless sprayers, and HVLP systems)
Equipment pre-use inspection including (nozzle condition, hose integrity, and trigger function)
Selecting spray pressure and tip size based on coating viscosity and substrate
3. Coating Mixing and Preparation
