This course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to understand, plan, and implement Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) programs in accordance with API 580, API 581, and DNV recommended practices. By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Comprehend the principles, terminology, and methodology of RBI as outlined in API 580 and API 581 standards.

  • Apply risk assessment techniques to identify, analyze, and evaluate equipment integrity risks in oil, gas, and process industries.

  • Integrate probability of failure (PoF) and consequence of failure (CoF) analyses into inspection planning.

  • Utilize DNV RBI guidelines to complement API approaches and enhance inspection optimization strategies.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain RBI programs to extend equipment life, improve safety, ensure compliance, and reduce maintenance costs.

Course Outline

1. First part:

This part presents the general methodology of Risk Based Inspection as per API 580, identifies the key elements of an RBI program, and discusses how to implement an RBI program.  This part will include a discussion on identification of API RP 571 damage mechanisms, risk management, and risk mitigation strategies.  Requirements for input data and information, and the roles of the RBI Assessment Team will be described.  Approaches to levels of RBI assessment and basis for implementation will be examined.

The exercise will give Delegates the opportunity to key elements for implementation of an RBI system to a refining/production facility.  The Course presenters are independent of any commercial organization and the Course Notes are applicable to all commercially available systems.  No software will be used in this course.

will give more clarification about the differences between API 580 and  581 with more details about (Inspection planning, Probability of failure & Consequence of failure followed by case study as per API 581
